Kickboxing May Slowly Be Working It’s Way Into The Olympics

Many years ago, the sport of kickboxing was looking like it could be the next big wave of combat training in the world. Then mixed martial arts came along and quickly extinguished that possibility. However, kickboxing now has another great opportunity to propel itself into the ether. It has just been announced that the sport will be included in the 2017 World Games in Poland next summer.
What are the World Games and why are they significant? The World Games are the biggest international multi-sport event other than the Olympics and allow only events/sports that are not currently a part of the Olympics. This is significant because this puts kickboxing back on the world stage for the first time in a long time and could, potentially, help push kickboxing to a level of international popularity that will get it included in the Olympics down the road.
The kickboxing portion of the 2017 World Games will include seven different weight classes for men and five for women. Several notable countries, including the United States, are expected to participate assuming they end up qualifying for the event. The style will be used is K-1 – by far the most globally popular of all kickboxing forms/styles. The 2017 World Games will take place in July 2017 in Wroclaw, Poland.
